Orangutan Information Centre (OIC)

Orangutan Information Centre (OIC), officially known as Yayasan Orangutan Sumatera Lestari, is a grassroots environmental organization based in North Sumatra dedicated to the conservation of orangutans and their forest habitats. Founded in 2001, the organization works closely with local communities in key ecosystems such as Leuser and Batang Toru to protect biodiversity, restore degraded forests, and mitigate human–orangutan conflict. Through conservation programs, habitat restoration, and community based initiatives, OIC aims to ensure the long term survival of critically endangered orangutans while promoting sustainable livelihoods and coexistence between people and nature.
