Indonesian Language Week and Extra Classes

Throughout the program, you will complete approximately 35 hours of Indonesian language classes. The classes are delivered by two of Indonesia's top universities - Padjadjaran University and BINUS University. The program is designed for all levels, from beginners to advanced speakers and will give you a real foundation to build upon.

Your first week in Indonesia is devoted entirely to learning Indonesian language and culture. During that week you will complete approximately 15 hours of language classes at UNPAD's campus, which is in a place called Jatinangor, just a stone's throw from the cool, scenic hills of Bandung — famously known as the "Paris of Java". In your free time, explore its vibrant markets, street food scene, and breathtaking landscapes, where traditional charm meets modern culture.

This week provides a great way to build friendships, boost your confidence, and settle in before moving to Jakarta for your internship experience.

You will then continue to build upon this foundation with a further 20 hours of language classes with BINUS University during your internship.

How much extra can I expect to spend?

Please read below for more detail on some of the major expenses that you can expect to incur, beyond your program fee.

Your initial visa is expected to be around $600 (the exact amount depends on exchange rates). In addition to this there are likely to be some extra costs, such as a fee for the administration involved with registering your new address when you move accommodation.

Item Indicative cost
Basic Indonesian meal
$2 – $5
Basic Western meal in a mall
$10 – $20
Coffee (traditional Indonesian style)
About $1
Coffee (Latte, etc.)
$3 – $7
A drink in a bar or club
$7 – $30
Laundry
$1 – $2 per kilo

Your accommodation for the first two months is provided, but you will pay for your own accommodation after that (our team will help you source it).

As you would expect, there is a great range of accommodation available in Jakarta. To give you an idea of the range, basic but clean, comfortable and secure accommodation costs about $500 per month, while a luxurious one-bedroom apartment can somewhere fro $1,500 to $3,000 per month.

Your travel to and from work each day, as well as personal travel, is not included in the program fee. The accommodation provided by International Internships for the first two months will be in a central location with the aim that all participants of the program will stay together. During this time, you can expect a one-way trip between your accommodation and work to be in the range of $2 to $10. Your accommodation after two months will be in a place of your choosing, so you can choose to keep it as low as possible.

Flight costs can vary depending on the airline, how direct your flight is and circumstances at the time you book. However, in our experience return flights from Melbourne to Jakarta typically cost between $700 and $1,400.

Why Indonesia?

A diverse and dynamic nation and Australia's key strategic partner

Indonesia, a vibrant archipelago of over 17,000 islands, is rich in biodiversity, cultures, and traditions. Interning here immerses students in a multicultural environment, building adaptability and cross-cultural communication—essential skills in today’s global job market.

The 2019 Indonesia-Australia Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (IA-CEPA) opened doors to stronger strategic and commercial ties between the two nations, creating exciting opportunities for collaboration.

With Southeast Asia’s largest economy and a forecast to become the world’s fifth-largest by 2030, Indonesia offers opportunities across sectors like business, finance, technology, education, environmental conservation, and more.
