Based in the Dharavi Slum, one of the biggest slums in Asia, this organisation has the vision to “Make quality education a reality” which they work toward in a number of ways. They run a kindergarten, where they provide a quality education to a number of children from the slum that could not otherwise afford it. They also have a community centre, which is for young adults and teens that have missed out on a quality education or have not been able to find employment. The aim of the organization is to teach these people some vital skills that will help them gain employment in the future.
Your Role:
You will teach in the kindergaten, as well as helping to develop curriculum for the students. You may also spend time helping in the Community Centre as well.
Requirements:
Majors: Education
Language: Only English is required
Other: The following will be important for the position:
- Enthusiasm for helping those less fortunate than yourself;
- Compassion and cultural understanding;
- Be prepared that you will be working in the Dharavi slum, so conditions are likely to not be as you are used to. In saying this, they are not as bad as many people may expect.
