AAWC is a not for profit organization based in Kamathipura, the red light district of Mumbai. The mission of AAWC is “…about making a difference to the lives of marginalised women, who are abandoned, destitute, exploited, with little resources to keep their body and soul together”. It does this by providing the women with basic goods and services, and working with them to build their capacities with a future goal in mind.
AAWC also runs the Sparrows program, through which they help the daughters of the sex workers by providing them with the skills and resources they need to break the cycle of prostitution. Thus far, they have had a phenomenal 100% success record with this, with none of the girls that have entered their program ending up working in prostitution!
Your Role:
During the mornings you will generally work in the office on a number of programs, from applying for grants and writing up reports to organizing finances. During the afternoons you will generally be working on the Sparrows program, spending time with the children.
Requirements:
Majors: All degrees will be considered.
Language: Only English is required
Other: You should have proven capability in demonstrating sensitivity to other cultures and be genuinely enthusiastic about the opportunity to help people in a desperate situation.
