Community and Ecological Law NGO

Project Support

This non-profit NGO’s work focuses on the issue of law reform in the natural resources sector, emphasising the importance of recognition of indigenous peoples’ and local communities’ rights to natural resources and preservation of ecology. This NGO works in Sumatra, Java, Kalimantan and Sulawesi.

Your Role

In your role as a project support intern, you may be involved in the following:

  • Organising and facilitating meetings with stakeholders, such as other NGOs and Indonesian government agencies.
  • Preparing reports on key policy areas and law reform in Indonesia, and comparing Indonesian government policy to that of other countries, including Australia.
  • Organising and producing social media content in Bahasa Indonesia and English.
  • Providing other support to the NGO’s ongoing programs.

Please note that you need to maintain an open and flexible mindset coming into the internship because, depending on the most pressing requirements of the organisation at the time of your internship, your role and responsibilities may change.

Requirements

Majors: Law, International Studies, Development Studies, Indonesian Studies, Anthropology, Social Sciences, Environmental Studies and Environmental Science, Public Policy and related areas.
Language: At least basic Bahasa Indonesia skills will be required for this internship. Students with more advanced Bahasa Indonesia skills may be able to undertake more in depth and hands-on field work.
Other: Applicants should be enthusiastic and flexible, and willing to take initiative to make sure they are getting the most out of the experience.
