ATN Online Internships

Real-world experience, earned online

It may not be possible to travel overseas because of COVID-19, but you can still get overseas work experience that contributes credit towards your course and adds depth to your CV. Virtual Mobility programs, funded by Australian government New Colombo Plan grants, offer amazing opportunities to work remotely with an Indonesian organisation, providing experience that puts your skills and studies into practice and can give you a solid edge in the employment market.

ATN_Linkedin_logoThis program is exclusively for students of Australian Technology Network of Universities (ATN). Recognised as a global leader of a new generation of universities, the ATN brings together five of the most innovative and enterprising universities in Australia: University of Technology Sydney, RMIT University, University of South Australia , Deakin University and Curtin University.  Internships focus on industry collaboration and real-world research, encouraging and developing skills in future leaders to help them thrive in their international business careers and communities.

How it works

Online internships are immersive experiences – not just a series of Zoom meetings! Following an intensive multi-day online orientation your internship will see you remote working with an Indonesian organisation, undertaking genuine and relevant projects for them, working with their staff as your colleagues. You’ll also be introduced to an Indonesian student buddy and join virtual workshops including networking events and professional development seminars hosted by industry experts. A range of online cultural activities are part of your program including language lessons, interactive cooking classes, movie nights and guided virtual-visits to major Indonesian tourist sights.

Team or Individual?

On an Individual Online Internship you work independently, like a regular employee of your host organisation, closely supported by your colleagues and the International Internships team. This provides the most flexibility, enabling you to choose your start date and choose how many days you want to work, from 2-5 days per week. When you apply you can express interest in any of our Advertised Positions or, just ask us to work with you to find the perfect internship.

On a Team Online Internship you will be an integral part of a small multi-disciplinary, cross-cultural team of students working together (remotely) to deliver a project for a highly-regarded Indonesian organisation. Your internship is still tailored to your area of study and preferences.

To read more about other potential sites and past experiences you can find some examples of past internships in the table below.

Fees and grants

Please see the above tables for program costs and the NCP grant amounts available.

If you are an Australian citizen, you are a current student of an ATN university, and your internship will count towards your degree, then it is likely that you will be eligible for a grant from the Australian Government’s New Colombo Plan. We will work with you and your university to confirm your eligibility for NCP before you need to accept your position on the program by paying the deposit.

With new rule changes, you can now obtain an NCP grant for an online internship even if you have already obtained a grant for an in-country experience.

Contact an International Internships consultant to discuss your eligibility for a government grant.
